Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness!

Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!

—Psalm 150 (ESV)

VOM workers recently visited a church in Burkina Faso in the northern part of the capital city. The church members currently have no building to worship in, so they meet under a tamarind tree to worship God with heartfelt devotion and enthusiasm. The tamarind tree is their sanctuary, and their praise brings glory to God.

Christians in Burkina Faso are attacked by Islamic terrorist groups affiliated with al-Qaida and the self-proclaimed Islamic State (ISIS). Few believers remain in the northern and southwestern parts of the country because of ongoing attacks, and more than 1,000 churches have reportedly closed because of security issues and threat of attack.

We invite you to join these courageous Christians through this short video in worshiping God.

Prayer and Reflection

Praise God today with our Burkinabe brothers and sisters and bring your requests to him (Philippians 4:6).

  • Praise God for the faithfulness of our brothers and sisters in Burkina Faso who worship and follow Christ at any cost.
  • Pray for the many displaced Christians who have fled attacks by Islamists.
  • Pray for the families of pastors martyred by terrorist groups linked to al-Qaida and ISIS.

As you pray for Burkina Faso, reflect on how you can praise the Lord in any circumstance — like our brothers and sisters worshiping under the tamarind tree.
