VOM and Charisma Magazine Discuss Persecution in China

On Tuesday, The Voice of the Martyrs and Charisma magazine hosted a joint webcast discussing the Olympics, China and Christian persecution. Todd Nettleton, VOM director of media development; Bob Fu, China Aid Association president; and J. Lee Grady, Charisma magazine editor, discussed how the Olympic Games, which begin in China on Friday, are affecting persecuted Christians living there.

Prior to the webcast, listeners were given opportunities to submit questions about Christianity in China, the state of the Chinese church and Chinese leaders’ reaction to increased scrutiny of the country’s policies during the Beijing Olympic Games.

Responding to an e-mail from a webcast participant in Sri Lanka, VOM’s Todd Nettleton explained that the courage of Chinese believers inspires other persecuted Christians around the world. “It’s an amazing encouragement when we share these stories [of Chinese Christians] from country to country. When they [believers] realize there is someone else who stood up for Christ, it encourages them and they can stand too,” Nettleton said.

The webcast ended with J. Lee Grady, Todd Nettleton and Bob Fu praying for persecuted believers in China and other restricted nations. They asked believers to continue praying for Christians living under persecution and risking their lives for their faith in Jesus Christ.
